Blomeke Woodland Gardens

The existing trail has been prepared in six areas with four key focal points. Along the path, these four focal points offer enriched forest gardens surrounding a water feature, seating areas, and other visual pleasures.
  • Area 1: The entryway and gate (bushes to be relocated).
  • Area 2: Large 14'x18' area to left at entryway (focal point 1).
  • Area 3: Pond cove 10'x15' area at entryway (focal point 2).
  • Area 4: Large 15'x20' area on left toward back (focal point 3).
  • Area 5: 10'x15' Cove between trees on right midway (focal point 4).
  • Area 6: Woodland border along both sides of 65' trail.
I describe below the outline of trail plantings with mulching entire path and border areas for a basic plan around $1,500. You will also see additional upgrade features I believe will add interesting and delightful options to enjoying your shade and woodland gardens. These enhancements include small garden pool, bench seats and outdoor table.

Woodland Path & Trail Preservation

As we discussed, with the path and woodland area cleared, we should minimize encroaching weeds and vines from taking over these areas again.

This can be accomplished by installing new weed barrier fabric and covering all areas with pure hardwood mulch layered to blend with existing path.

In addition to inhibiting new weed growth, this will enhance the entire pathway and all featured areas.

Install new barrier fabric in cleared areas and top with 100% Natural Shredded Hardwood Mulch to blend with existing path. Mulch all path borders and featured areas. Mulch, barrier, and labor $699.

Woodland Path Entryway (Area 1)

The woodland path entry improvements include moving large front bushes which block the view of trail.

These should be replaced with lower growing plants which highlight the entry and enable open views of trail feature areas.

Enhanced views of the large open garden feature on left can include a relaxing bench seat and enticing water feature cove on right.

Excavate five bushes, relocate, and replant in new location. Remove thorn bush on right. Labor and cleanup $199. Transplant supplies $49. Matching fence backdrop can be added behind left garden in several height options.

While every care is made for plant health, no guarantee can be made on surviving relocation. Existing Pachysandra can be included in trail border or along open areas. Periwinkle is another excellent groundcover for shade and partial sun.

An optional improvement to entryway is an overhead arbor and sitting area.

Semi-Shade Garden Border (Area 2)

This broad border area stretches over 18 feet along left side of entryway.

A deep border garden with three layers of semi-shade and color plant options adorn this welcoming region.

Three rows of mixed plantings nurture the eyes and nestle up to an inviting resting spot along trail.

Install multiple plants. Plants, materials, and labor...$399. Optional bench seats as shown in entryway photo above run $129 to $179.

Small Water Feature in Cove (Area 3)

The first feature on the right offers a quiet water pool surrounded by ferns, hostas and natural stone.

Small pond includes goldfish and mosquito catchers. These are inexpensive and require no maintenance or care while providing natural interest and beauty.

Excavate and install pond with stone surround, fish stock, and aquatic plants. Materials and labor $599. Pond depths range from one to two feet.

Install mixed border plants including shade and semi-shade plants $199.

Shaded Seating & Refreshment Garden (Area 4)

The largest setting is the second on the left along trail.

This area reaches up to 20 feet into the woodland border and offers a quiet setting for rest and reflection on a shady bench seat.

Read a book or enjoy a quiet lunch on the park table setting in your own outdoor room surrounded by stately trees and forest fauna.

Hardy hostas, ferns and plantings surround the quiet cove while the ground is blanketed with a rich layer of fresh hardwood mulch.

Install plantings and feature furniture. Plants, materials and labor...$349. Concrete table with benches about $399. Bench seats run $125 to $199. Candle lantern $99.

Pathway Shade Feature (Area 5)

Bounded on either end by mature hardwoods, this garden feature opens a window into the woodlands deep within the forest.

This focal point along the second opening on right side of trail reaches across 15 feet with two rows of festive woodland fauna. A sturdy bird bath or feeder rounds out the setting.

Install plants and garden features. Mulch wraps to plant border. Materials and labor...$299. Optional concrete bird bath or feeder...$69.

Woodland Trail Border (Area 6)

The woodland trail features mature plants along the borders to include a variety of ferns, hostas and shade-loving plants.

Hardwood mulch wraps the edges of the perennial border gardens.

Installation of border plantings. Plants and labor $299.
